Melbourne ANZAC Day March
2023 ANZAC Day – Melbourne _Post Event Report
The weather was fine and sunny as was the disposition of those who marched this year in Melbourne with the Naval Warfare Officers’ Association. The contingent was led by RADM John Lord RAN (rtd) and NWOA included Andrew Mackinnon, Rob Glanvill, Chris Morris and Doug Stevens. Three Naval Officers Club members also marched. We were very fortunate to have 25 junior officers from HMAS Cerberus (Engineer Officers Application Course) and 3 junior officers from a current Maritime Warfare Officers Course at HMAS Watson also as part of our squad.
Those who could squeeze into Young and Jacksons afterwards did so, others moved on to other establishments.
Organisation
Repeating earlier general messages, the NWOA will again participate in the Melbourne ANZAC Day March and immediately afterwards will gather at Young and Jacksons for refreshments. At some time after midday some of the group will relocate to a nearby restaurant for lunch.
Our March contingent will again be led by RADM John Lord, AM RAN Rtd, to whom we are grateful. Our ranks will also be swelled by 25 sub-lieutenants in uniform from HMAS _Cerberus. For this squad of young engineer officers under training, this will be their first experience of marching as a squad outside of the Navy training environment.
The attached spreadsheet identifies the NWOA squad as serial 05.02 which is required to be assembled on the river side of Flinders Street in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral by 0845 at the latest. Separate communications from RSL organisers requests that we all be there at about 0815. Medals are to be worn.
We are expected by the March Marshall to be marching through the the Flinders St. Station intersection at 0906.
For those who plan for their wives, partners and/or friends to join us after the March at Y&J, based upon the above timing, we should be back there by about 1000. Final OOM 2023 Mar 10 2023(1).xlsx
